As the Coordinator of Emergency Management for the City of Hopewell, Ben has the responsibility of emergency planning, and coordinating response efforts in the event of a natural or manmade disaster within the City. He began his career with the City of Hopewell in 2001 as a Firefighter/Paramedic for the City’s Department of Fire & Rescue. Since the appointment to his current position in June of 2007 he led the City’s preparedness efforts through many projects including; re-writing the City’s Emergency Operations Plan, numerous emergency response exercises, as well as training City employees and response partners in the use of the National Incident Management System. He has also been involved in the City’s response to various emergencies and disasters including Hurricane Irene, Hazmat spills, etc. Ben also represents the City on several local, regional, and State organizations including; coordinating the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), serving as the Chair of the Central Virginia Emergency Management Alliance, and serving as a board member for the Virginia Emergency Management Association. Ben has been married to his wife Jennifer since 2004 and they have one son, Benjamin. They enjoy the outdoors and leading youth programs for their church during their spare time.
