BOARD OF BUILDING CODE AND FIRE PREVENTION CODE APPEALS

The five (5)-member Board is appointed by the Judges of the Circuit Court for five (5)-year terms of office, after recommendation by the City Council. The terms of office are set forth in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code as adopted by the Code of the City of Hopewell. The Board is a quasi-judicial body established under State Law to provide relief to special cases where the exact application of the terms of the Zoning Ordinance may be unduly restrictive and cause a hardship. The board is empowered to hear and decide appeals from any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by the Zoning Administrator or an administrative official in enforcing or administering the Zoning Ordinance. This pertains to new construction and existing structures in the City. Meeting Time and Place: Held as needed; City Council Chambers, Municipal Building, 300 N. Main St., Hopewell.
