City Marina

Rec Logo1The Hopewell City Marina is a municipal marina that offers a variety of amenities for boaters and other guests. The marina is located on the Appomattox River approximately one mile from the James River at City Point. The marina offers a four lane boat ramp with gentle slope, open and covered slips, pump out station, restroom facilities, and fully stocked ship store. Truck and trailer parking is available in the paved lot with spaces that can accommodate oversized vehicles and large trailers. The boat ramp and parking area are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Appomattox River

The Appomattox River flows from Appomattox County to the City of Hopewell where it meets the James River at City Point. The lower portion of the River, below Lake Chesdin and the fall line rapids, includes the portion of the River accessible via the Hopewell City Marina.  The River is popular among pleasure boaters, fisherman, kayakers and canoeists.  The Appomattox boasts a wide variety of fish species including  blue catfish, largemouth bass, crappie, and sunfish.  Seasonal spawning provides temporary populations of herring, shad, sturgeon, and striped bass.  The River is a popular among kayakers and canoeists for its variety of scenery and wildlife.

The Appomattox River is one of Hopewell’s greatest natural resources.  The river provides opportunities for boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, birding and much more!  There are several public access points in the City of Hopewell, including Appomattox Manor, City Park, the Hopewell City Marina, and Weston Manor.  There are additional access points and places of interest along the river in Prince George, Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Petersburg and Dinwiddie.  The interpretive guide below lists public access and points of interest along the river.
