If you have been involved in a traffic accident that was investigated by the Hopewell Bureau of Police, you may obtain a copy of the accident report at the Police Department, 300 North Main Street, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. There is a $2.50 charge for this service.

Parking Ticket Procedure: Payment of a parking ticket is due within five days of issuance. Payment may be made at the Bureau of Police Building or the City Municipal Building drop box at 300 North Main Street. Payments dropped off at the Police Department after 9:00 a.m. will not be credited until the next business day. Payments deposited in the drop box after 3:00 p.m. will not be credited until the next business day. For additional information regarding parking ticket payment procedures, contact the Bureau of Police Records Division between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at (804) 541-2272 or you may use the 24-hour number (804) 541-2275.

Inoperable and Junk Vehicles: All inoperable, junk, or unlicensed motor vehicles must be parked or stored within a structure such as a garage or covered by a fitted car cover in good repair. Violations of this requirement may be reported by calling (804) 541-2275.


Firearms Regulations


It is unlawful for any person to discharge shots, bullets, pellets, or any similar object from a firearm, air gun, spring gun, pellet gun, or other implement in the City of Hopewell. It is also illegal for any person to point or brandish any firearm or any object similar in appearance to a firearm, whether capable of being fired or not, which may reasonably induce fear in the mind of another. In addition, it is illegal for any person to carry, hidden from common observation, a pistol, revolver, or other weapon, including a knife, razor, slingshot, metal knuckles, blackjack, or nunchucks. Violators of these ordinances shall be guilty of a Class I misdemeanor and the weapon shall be forfeited to the City, and may be seized by a police officer.

Concealed Weapon Permits: Citizens of Hopewell may obtain an application for a concealed weapon permit from the Bureau of Police at 300 North Main Street between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on normal workdays. When the application is completed, it should be delivered to the Circuit Court accompanied with a $50.00 fee.

It should be noted that criminal history record information is not available from the Hopewell Bureau of Police. All requests for criminal history information should be referred to the Virginia State Police.
