Rev. Curtis W. Harris serves Ward 2, which incorporates the community of Davisville and the vast industrial area in the city near Route 10.

Rev. Harris has served on City Council since first elected in 1986. In 1994 he was elected Vice Mayor, and in 1998 he made history by being elected the first African/American Mayor of Hopewell.

He and his wife, Ruth, live on Terminal Street near Union Baptist Church where he serves as pastor. The Harris’s have six children, many grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. The two also ran Union Daycare Center (now Precious Moments), which is also on Terminal Street. Ruth Harris recently retired as its director.
