Councilor Pelham
is a native of the City of Hopewell. She graduated from Hopewell High
School in 1972. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Virginia
State University in May of 1977 and was commissioned a 2nd
Lieutenant that same year in the United States Army. She served honorably
for 12 years achieving the rank of Captain. Additionally, she received a
Masters of Arts Degree from the University of Oklahoma. She returned to the
City she loves, Hopewell, in September 1989. She began
employment with the Hopewell Public School System in 1990, serving as a Guidance
Counselor at Carter G. Woodson Middle School.
Ms. Pelham is
currently serving as President, John Randolph Foundation; President,
Hopewell Boys and Girls Club Advisory Board; Member, Hopewell Emergency Crew
Advisory Board, Mentor, Big Brother’s and Big Sister’s Organization; and
Member, Blessed Hope Community Church. Ms. Pelham’s past affiliations with
voluntary organizations include: President, Hopewell Chapter, America’s
Promise; President, Youth NAACP; Member, Neighborhood Watch Council; and
Founder and Co-Director of Ladies Smooth Precision Drill Team.
