General Information
  • The Appomattox Cemetery is open from sunrise to sunset.

  • Burials and interment services may be held daily except Sunday and observed holidays.

  • Grave openings and closings are handled by the servicing funeral director.

Decorations
  • Fresh cut flowers and potted plants may be placed on graves at any time except during the annual cleaning period (February 20th - March 6th) and remain until the blossoms fade.

  • Artificial arrangements may be placed on graves and remain as long as they remain in good repair. Seasonal decorations must be removed 21 days after the observance or during the annual cleaning period. Decorations that are in disrepair will be removed and discarded by maintenance personnel.

  • Except immediately after a funeral grave sites cannot be completely covered for more than 5 days.

  • Flowers and artificial decorations are to be placed at the head of the grave, on the left and right sides or on top of the monument or headstone.

  • Decorations must be neatly arranged.

  • Glass containers, decorations, fences, walls, and permanent plantings are not allowed.

Markers & Monuments
  • Monuments, markers, or foundations may not be built or placed on a space until full payment has been made.

  • Only one upright monument may be placed on a space. Upright monuments shall only be placed at the head of the grave.
     
  • No more than two markers or monuments may be placed on a space.

Perpetual Care
  • Revenue from the sale of gravesites is deposited in a perpetual care fund to cover the annual cost of grounds and gravesite maintenance.

  • City forces or contractors are responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the cemetery. This includes maintenance of grounds, entrances, and roads.

  • Leveling of new gravesites is the responsibility of the funeral director during the first year after interment. The City will assume responsibility for leveling sunken graves after 1 year.

  • Maintenance of tombstones and markers is the responsibility of the family.

  • The City is not responsible for any damage resulting from work done by contractors or as a result of vandalism.


Sales & Payment


Prices
  • Adult size plots $403

  • Child size plots $127.50

  • The cost of the cemetery plot must be paid in full before internment's are permitted.

Resale
    • The city retains the general management and control of all lots in the cemetery which are sold.

    • Unused cemetery lots may only be sold back to the city. The city will repurchase the lots for the original purchase price.

    • The city may resell redeemed lots.

Installment sales
  • Cemetery lots may be purchased on an installment basis. (Pre-need only)

  • Payment schedules may are handled by the City Treasurer.
