Vision

The Hopewell Bureau of Police is adaptive, participatory, and science based. The Department is focused on the prevention of crime, fear of crime, roadway safety, and the overall improvement in the quality of life. The goal of the Department is to be recognized by its citizens and peers as professional, effective, and caring.

Employment

The Hopewell Police Department employs 48 sworn officers, three animal control officers, eight dispatchers, six school crossing guards, and 14 civilian employees.

Location

Police headquarters is located in the City Hall building at 300 North Main Street. Hours of operation for administration are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays. The Dispatch Center is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The telephone number for non-emergency service is (804) 541-2275.

Emergency Police Services

The City of Hopewell maintains an Enhanced 911 System that provides the communications center with phone numbers and addresses from which a call is being placed. The phone number and location appear on a screen for the communications officer to view within two seconds after the 911 call is answered. This feature enables communications officers to dispatch emergency assistance even if the caller is unable to relay their location.
