Grant’s Headquarters at City Point (804) 458-9504 Cedar Lane @ Pecan Avenue From
June 1864-April 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant directed the 10-month
Siege of Petersburg from the grounds of Appomattox Plantation at City
Point. During this period, City Point served as a supply center for
100,000 Union soldiers. Located at the junction of the James and
Appomattox Rivers, it was also one of the busiest seaports in the world
at that time. Tour includes 15-minute video, parlor, library, Grant’s
Cabin and outbuildings. Closed Federal holidays. |

museum features artifacts and exhibits depicting Hopewell’s colonial,
Civil War and early 20th-century heritage. Open April-October.

City Point Open Air Museum City Point Open Air Museum (804) 541-2461 Cedar Lane to Water Street This
self-guided walking tour includes 24 points of interest with most focusing on Civil War history. Outdoor storyboards capture the people and events of City Point as you walk down the same streets as General Ulysses S. Grant and President Abraham Lincoln. Tour guide available at Visitor Center.

elegant 18th-century plantation home overlooks the Appomattox River and
is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Weston Manor is
notable for preserving much of its original interior. The guided tour
includes three floors furnished in period antiques and reproductions.

As one of the most visible historic landmarks in
downtown Hopewell, the Beacon Theatre has captured the hearts and
attention of generations for over 75 years. Today, the golden era
of the Beacon lives on. As a one-of-a-kind meeting facility
encompassing the renovated Grand Ballroom and two floors of event
space, the Beacon Theatre provides an alternative location that is
unique to the typical meeting spaces found in conference centers and
hotels. With over 1,900 square feet of meeting space, the
Flannagan Family Grand Ballroom (up to 175 persons standing) has 14’4”
high ceilings, Brazilian cherry hardwood floors and a built-in
bar. The Beacon Theatre also offers the Jones Family Conference
Center (up to 100 seated) and a Reception Area (up to 45

The Hopewell Mural
The Hopewell Mural, is a 275 square foot oil painting, by Jay Bohannan
located on the first floor of the Municipal Building. Dedicated
in 1990, in honor of the City's 75th year of incorporation, the mural
depicts a montage of Hopewell's history and culture.
"In Gear"
"In Gear", by Matthew D. Fine dedicated April 26, 1991. Located
in Ashford Civic Plaza this sculpture commemorates Hopewell Industrious past.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., by the famed sculptor Paul DiPasquale, to
commemorate Dr. King's 1962 appearance in Hopewell District Court as a
defender of civil rights in America. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to
justice everywhere", said Dr. King. This monument was dedicated
in April of 2004.
