HOPEWELL POLICE DEPARTMENT AWARDS
Medal of Valor – The Police Medal of Valor is awarded to an officer who distinguishes himself/herself conspicuously by gallantry at the risk of his/her life above the call of duty. The deed performed must have been one of personal bravery and/or self-sacrifice so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish the individual above his/her fellow officers and must have involved risk of life during an armed conflict.
Police Star – The Police Star is awarded to an officer who distinguished himself/herself by extraordinary bravery not justifying the award of the Medal of Valor.
Meritorious Service Award – The Meritorious Service Award may be awarded to an employee for exceptional meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility, the duty reflecting excellence in such performance.
Combat Ribbon – The Combat Ribbon is awarded to an officer who comes under hostile fire or other deadly assault and, who if not physically incapacitated, responds to the criminal act in some affirmative manner. Mere presence at the scene of such an incident will not meet the criteria for the award.
Police Purple Heart – The Purple Heart is awarded to an officer seriously injured while performing enforcement duties or initiating lifesaving duties, on or off-duty.
Life Saving Award – The Life Saving Award is awarded to an employee who, by direct intervention, is reasonably determined to be responsible for saving the life of another.
Police Good Conduct Award – The Police Good Conduct Award is awarded to an employee who has, within the previous three years, received neither a written reprimand or suspension from duty. |
