IMPORTANT DATES



Please note the following important tax-related dates:

Jan 2
Business licenses go on sale; please apply with the Commissioner of Revenue’s Office.

Jan 15
4th quarter state estimated income tax payments (for prior year) are due.

Feb 15
Deadline to pay personal property, business furniture & fixtures, and public service taxes (for prior year) without penalty and interest. Deadline to pay vehicle license fees for vehicles owned or garaged in Hopewell as of Jan 1st.

Mar 1
Deadline to renew business licenses at the Commissioner of Revenue’s Office.

Mar 31
Deadline to pay for business licenses at the Treasurer’s Office.

Apr 1
Deadline to file real estate tax relief applications for persons over 65 or disabled; please apply with the Commissioner of Revenue’s Office.

May 1
Deadline for Virginia state income tax returns; 1st quarter State estimated income tax payments are also due. 

Jun 15
Deadline to pay 1st half real estate and machinery & tools taxes without penalty and interest. 2nd quarter State estimated income tax payments are due.
       
Jul 1
ABC Licenses go on sale; please apply with the Commissioner of Revenue’s Office.

Jul 31
Deadline for ABC licenses; please pay at the Treasurer’s Office. Deadline for 2nd half business license payments.

Sep 15
3rd quarter State estimated income tax payments are due.

Dec 5 
Deadline to pay 2nd half real estate and machinery & tools taxes without penalty and interest.




HOPEWELL TREASURER’S OFFICE PAYMENT OPTIONS


PAY BY MAIL: Make check or money order payable to Treasurer, City of Hopewell and mail to:

Payment must be postmarked by the due date to avoid penalty and interest.

DROP OFF: Use Drop Box across from the Police Department entrance, 300 North Main Street,Hopewell, Virginia.

PAY IN PERSON: Pay at the Treasurer’s Office, 300 North Main Street, Room 109, Hopewell, Virginia, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.  Please note that the Treasurer’s Office is closed on State holidays.

PAY BY CREDIT CARD: Call 1 888-2PAY-TAX (1 888-272-9829).  You will be prompted to enter information on your touch tone keypad.  A service charge imposed by our service provider will apply.  You will be required to enter Hopewell’s jurisdiction code (1023) and your account number located on the front of your bill.

PAY ONLINE: Go to www.officialpayments.com.  A service charge imposed by our service provider will apply.  You will be required to enter Hopewell’s jurisdiction code (1023) and your account number located on the front of your bill.

The Treasurer’s Office accepts payments towards taxes throughout the year.  Those payments received before the bill date are considered prepayments and will be reflected in the “PAYMENTS/CREDITS APPLIED” section of your bill.  Please contact our office at (804) 541-2240 for more information.
