Essential Responsibilities: The Crime Analyst provides currently useful information by identifying and analyzing methods of operation of individual criminals, providing crime pattern recognition and providing analysis of data from police reports. The position provides estimates of future crime trends and assists in the identification of enforcement priorities. Also, the position customizes statistical reports to aid in connecting suspects, vehicles, offenses, and other crime elements and creates visual displays of the statistical data (i.e. crime maps, graphs, pie charts). The position develops concise biographical sketches of suspects (suspect profiling); participates in interdepartmental committees relating to projects for selected neighborhoods and/or high crime areas for the purpose of reducing crime; keeps abreast of current developments in crime analysis and statistical compilation methods; exchanges information with other law enforcement agencies comparing patterns and trends; and coordinates and conducts police report writing training.
Job Requirements/Specifications: The position requires considerable knowledge of the practices and techniques of crime research analysis and of police information systems; of related federal, state, and local laws, codes and/or ordinances; and of Incident Based Reporting (IBR) systems. The position requires completion of the core curriculum for an associate level major in police science and three years experience in police work or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of database output software products and skill at using Crystal Reports is preferred.

Job Description: The Hopewell Police Department is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of AUXILIARY POLICE OFFICER with the City of Hopewell, Virginia. In service to the community’s population of approximately 22,300 citizens, the qualified candidates shall possess the abilities necessary to respond to and investigate requests for police service including crimes in progress, traffic accidents and other incidents impacting the qualify of life in the community. In addition, the successful candidates shall be required to interact with other Department members, the criminal justice system and citizens in general with the highest level of professionalism and commitment to excellence. Successful candidates must be able to devote a minimum of 20 hours of service per month as well as being subject to call-in for special events and emergencies.
Qualifications: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: 21 years of age, a High School Diploma or GED (Associates Degree or higher preferred), United States Citizenship, possession of a valid Driver’s License and/or the ability to obtain one in the state of Virginia prior to employment, current experience as a law enforcement officer (preferably in Virginia) or the ability to secure certification as a law enforcement officer in the state of Virginia in accordance with the Code of Virginia, successful completion of a written examination, physical agility test, oral interview(s), medical and drug screening, and psychological screening. Further, applicants must have an excellent moral character and background that will withstand a comprehensive background investigation, criminal history check (free of any felonies & misdemeanors) and subsequent polygraph(s).

Job Description: Serves as database administrator/analyst/consultant to provide database analysis, security, support and report writing for the City systems and end-users.
- Troubleshoot database related problems, tune database configurations for performance
- Perform all tasks associated with database maintenance, backup and recovery procedures
- Provide software development support such as creating requested reports from SQL/Oracle databases as needed. Ensures the integrity of the data.
- Meets with end-users to conduct business systems needs analyses and prepares queries and reports such as Crystal reports, in response to their department needs and specifications.
- Install and test new releases. Schedule and perform upgrades to databases.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of all supporting documentation.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Science or related field and at least 5 years experience as a computer programmer, database administrator or analyst. Experience implementing new software or equivalent combination of education or experience. Experience in all listed areas preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
- DBA Certification preferred
