Hopewell Recreation and Parks sponsors a variety of special events throughout the year. Generally, special events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. Please check out all of our upcoming events below for additional information.
Hopewell Haunts and Fall Festival at Patrick Copeland Elementary School
Join Hopewell Recreation and Parks and the Patrick Copeland PTO for a Halloween celebration like no other! The event will be held primarily at Patrick Copeland Elementary School with both indoor and outdoor activities. Featured activities include a haunted hayride, haunted house, hay maze, games, contests, entertainment, and much more! Food trucks will offer a variety of concessions available for purchase. Admission for the event is $1/person (cash at the gate). All proceeds will support the mission of the PTO. Parking will be available at Patrick Copeland ES and Hopewell High School with shuttle service available.

City Point 5K and Kids Fun Run
Lace up your sneakers and hit the course with all your friends! The City Point 5K and Kids Fun Run is one of the department’s longest running events and attracts more than 1,000 participants each year. The race course follows a flat and picturesque route through historic City Point and downtown Hopewell. Register for the 5K by October 13 to receive a reduced rate and guarantee your race shirt. Packet pick-up will be available at the Hopewell Community Center.

Hopewell HEAL Fest
Check out Hopewell’s only celebration of Healthy Eating and Active Living at the Hopewell HEAL Fest held in conjunction with the City Point 5K and Kids Fun Run. A variety of vendors will be on hand to share information on fun ways to stay healthy and active. Demonstrations will be provided throughout the day.

Veterans Day Celebration
Did you know that 2018 marks the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I? To honor this special occasion, Hopewell will offer a variety of events including a memorial ceremony, parade, and free community concert. Please check out the attached flyer for additional details.

Holiday Boat Parade
The Appomattox River with sparkle and glimmer with boats creatively decorated for the holidays. Boats will depart from the Jordan Point Yacht Haven at 5:30PM and make their way to Anchor Point Marina. The Hopewell City Marina will serve as the main viewing location with food trucks, activities, and entertainment. Parade entries will be announced at the marina and a brief awards ceremony will be held at the conclusion of the parade. Parking is limited at the marina. Overflow parking will be available at Weston Manor.

Light Up the Night
Take part in Hopewell’s annual Christmas celebration on Sunday, December 2. Kick off the day with the Christmas parade beginning at 4PM. The parade will start at Cavalier Square Shopping Center and follow 15th Avenue, City Point Road, and Main Street to the Ashford Civic Plaza. Shortly after the conclusion of the parade, a brief ceremony will be held on the front steps of City Hall for the grand illumination of Ashford Civic Plaza. Beginning at 6PM, a variety of activities will be available throughout Hopewell’s downtown. Visits with Santa and musical performances will be held in the Beacon Theatre, horse and carriage rides will be available on Cawson Street, and a variety of vendors and other activities will be available at the Hopewell Library and Guncotten Coffee and Gallery. All activities are free and open to the public.
