Jasmine Gore, graduated from Hopewell High School in 2004 after her military family relocated to the City of Hopewell. At the age of 25, Ms. Gore had a sense of civic duty and volunteered on City boards and commissions such as Keep Hopewell Beautiful, Economic Development Authority and Architecture Review Board. November 2012, she made history within the City of Hopewell and Commonwealth of Virginia during the municipal elections. Just two years after obtaining dual bachelor degrees in Biology and Political Science from Virginia Commonwealth University Ms. Gore become the second 26 year-old to sit on Hopewell’s City Council. She is currently the first woman and African-American elected to represent Ward Four within the City of Hopewell. In 2013, Ms. Gore was appointed to serve as the youngest Vice-Mayor within the Commonwealth of Virginia. During her service as Vice-Mayor, she has been credited with initiating the citizen-driven City of Hopewell’s Strategic Plan that was adopted unanimously in June 2014. Due to her forward-thinking, in 2013 Ms. Gore was recognized by Style Weekly as one of Richmond’s Top 40 Under 40 for being among “young standouts who are lifting the community to greater heights.”
In addition, Ms. Gore was selected to serve as a 2013-2014 Fellow for the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO) Foundation. The Foundation was founded by the NBC-LEO, a constituency group within the National League of Cities (NLC). The highly competitive fellowship only selects two newly elected officials out of a nationwide pool to strengthen their governance expertise and leadership capabilities. She currently is appointed to serve as NBC-LEO’s Deputy Director for Region 3 which includes KY, WV, VA, MD, DC, and DE. In 2014, Ms. Gore became the youngest appointee to the 2015 National Board of Directors for the National League of Cities (NLC), an organization that provides resources and advocates for more than 19,000 cities, villages/towns and 49 state municipal leagues. In this leadership role she serves as the only representative from the Commonwealth of Virginia which as earned her the opportunity to advocate for the City of Hopewell at the White House.
Before appointment to NLC’s National Board of Directors, Ms. Gore served on the NLC’s Finance, Administration & Intergovernmental Relations Committee and Virginia Municipal Leagues Finance and Community & Economic Development Committees.
In July, after Governor McAuliffe’s 2014 Inauguration, Ms. Gore was tapped to serve on the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Board of Medicine.
In 2015, Ms. Gore was noted to be the “Next Generation of Government” by the national elected official organization and selected as the Emerging Leader of the Year for a state party within Virginia. She has proven to be both diligent and innovative about addressing the needs of the City of Hopewell. Vice-Mayor Gore promotes, advocates and creates programs and legislation that reflect the citizen-driven Strategic Plan with the promise to continue to move the City of Hopewell forward.
