Through its programming and facilities, the department always maintains a focus on environmental stewardship and conservation. As a city located on two rivers, Hopewell thrives on the health of its natural environment and public access to natural resources.

Efforts

The Recreation and Parks Department often serves as the leader in environmental education opportunities and other projects like tree planting events, classroom education, river clean-ups, and invasive species removal efforts

Awards & Recognition

The department received the Best New Environmental Sustainability Project award for its work with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation on the Hopewell Restoration Project.
