2019 Appomattox RiverFest Event Set for April 27th
Includes Newly Added Family Fun and Adventure Activities
CLIMB, EXPLORE, FISH, PADDLE, LEARN – Eat, Drink, Be Active!
Petersburg, VA– On Saturday, April 27thFriends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR) presents the Appomattox RiverFest with activities co-sponsor Fort Lee and marketing partner Dinwiddie County, VA featuring 30+ regional exhibit partners, tasty food, live music, and a whole lot of fun outdoor activities! New this year is the 25-foot-tall climbing wall, provided by the National Guard, where festival-goers can test their climbing skills while building self-confidence. This much anticipated family event is for river and nature lovers, outdoor enthusiast, history buffs, and everyone who wants to spend a day taking in the scenic and historic treasures of the Appomattox River!
From 10AM – 3PM at the Appomattox Riverside Park, 24909 Ferndale Road, Petersburg VA 23803 – at the beautiful rocky rapid falls where Dinwiddie, Petersburg and Chesterfield meet – RiverFest will offer these activities and more:
o Youth Fishing workshops, provided by Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries
o Kayaking workshops with instructors from Fort Lee MWR Outdoor Recreation
o Archaeological activities and demonstrations and
o Obstacle course with Fort Lee
o View rare fauna along the trails with a Naturalist
o See and learn about the fish, reptiles, amphibians, bugs and birds that help keep the river healthy with Environment Education Specialists and
AWARE (Alliance of Wild Animal Rehabilitators and Educators)
o Stroll or ride a Tram along the River Walk Trail that provides great views of the river
o Enjoy Food Trucks (Bring cash), and live music by Johnny Jones & Friends!
Program contributors include: Appomattox River Soil and Water Conservation District; Blacksmith Grizzly Forge; Chesapeake Bay Foundation; Dinwiddie Master Gardeners; FOLAR – Friends of the Lower Appomattox River; Matoaca Village History; Petersburg Area Regional Tourism; Petersburg Battlefield Foundation; Pocahontas Chapter-VA Master Naturalists; RVA Goats and Honey; Sports Backers RVA, Virginia American Water; Virginia Dept. of Conservation and Recreation; Virginia Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries; Virginia Dept. of Forestry; Virginia Native Plant Society; and lots more!
There will be plenty of off-site parking at three locations, (Only handicap accessible parking will be available on-site.) with two shuttle buses running throughout the day.

The event is open to the public. A $5 donation is suggested at the gate to help FOLAR continue its mission to conserve and protect the Appomattox River for all to enjoy.
