[Hopewell, VA] – On August 29, 2019 at approximately 5:41P.M., officers responded to the 800 block of Arlington Road for a call for service of shots fired and an individual who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers along with Emergency Medical Services located a single adult male victim who had sustained serious gunshot related injuries. Medical treatment was rendered at the scene and the victim was transported to John Randolph Medical Center for further treatment.
The victim identified as Jaequan Lamonte Johnson, Age 21of the City of Hopewell. Mr. Johnson was pronounced deceased by treating medical staff. Mr. Johnson has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) for autopsy. Members of the Hopewell Police Department Criminal Investigation and Street Crimes Units subsequently initiated a homicide investigation.
The investigation identified four individuals complicit in the murder of Mr. Johnson. Members of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force have arrested all four individuals without incident.
- Mr. Aaron Drumheller, age 23 of the City of Petersburg. He was apprehended in the City of Petersburg on September 3, 2019 and charged with 1st degree murder plus 13 additional charges.
- Mr. Shaone Lovett, age 23, of the City of Hopewell. He was apprehended in the City of Hopewell on September 4, 2019 and charged with 1st degree homicide plus 3 additional felony charges.
- Mr. Dae’kwon Castelle, age 21, of the City of Petersburg. He was apprehended in Dinwiddie County on September 10, 2019 and charged with 1st degree homicide plus 3 additional felony charges.
- Mr. Zhaquan Fisher, age 23, of the City of Hopewell. He was apprehended in City of Colonial Heights on September 20, 2019 and charged with 1st degree homicide plus 3 additional felony charges.
“The U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, of which the Hopewell Police Department is a member, has proven again to be a valuable asset in locating and apprehending fugitives”, said Chief of Police Kamran Afzal.
Lieutenant Michael Langford, of the Hopewell Police Department Criminal Investigation, stated “Through coordinated efforts with our Uniformed Patrol Division. Criminal Investigations Unit, Street Crimes Unit, local, state and federal partners we were able to identify, apprehend and remove four fugitives from the streets”.
