CITY OF HOPEWELL HOLIDAY EVENT LANE CLOSURES
HOPEWELL, VA. The City of Hopewell will host two large special events on Saturday, December 1, and Sunday, December 2 to celebrate the upcoming holidays. Both events are anticipated to draw large crowds and will impact traffic patterns across the City.
Holiday Boat Parade – Saturday, December 1
Motorists should expect delays on Riverside Avenue in the vicinity of the Hopewell City Marina on Saturday, December 1, from approximately 4:30 PM-7:30 PM. Delays may also impact parts of 21st Avenue in the vicinity of Weston Manor and State Route 10 in the vicinity of Riverside Loop. Thru traffic should use alternate routes to avoid the Hopewell City Marina during this event.
Light Up the Night Parade and Festival – Sunday December 2
Multiple road closures will be in place for the Light Up the Night event and will impact traffic patterns across the City. The following roads will be impacted from 3:00 PM-6:00 PM:
- 15th Avenue from Arlington Road to City Point Road
- City Point Road from 15th Avenue to Randolph Road
- Main Street from City Point Road to Randolph Road
- 6th Avenue from West Broadway Avenue to Winston Churchill Drive
- West Broadway Avenue from 6th Avenue to Randolph Road
*additional cross streets in the vicinity of the parade route will also be impacted with road closures.
Patrons of businesses located at the Cavalier Square Shopping Center should use the Winston Churchill Drive entrance/exit during the parade. Please note that parts of the parking lot will be restricted for parade use only.
Additional road closures in the downtown area from 5:00 PM-9:00 PM will include:
- Cawson Street from Randolph Road to Hopewell Street
- East Broadway Avenue from Randolph Road to Hopewell Street
- Library Street from Appomattox Street to East Broadway Avenue
Individuals who plan to attend the events should follow signage and park in designated areas. Parking for the boat parade is available at the Hopewell City Marina/Weston Manor and parking for the Light Up the Night event is available at the Hopewell Courthouse, Hopewell Library gravel lot (accessible from Appomattox Street), and on the street throughout the downtown area.
The Hopewell Recreation and Parks Department urges motorists to use caution when traveling in special event areas. Please drive slowly and watch for pedestrians. Please keep these events safe and enjoyable for all.
