**Death Investigation underway**
[Hopewell, VA] – On September 10, 2019 at 3:28 PM, officers responded to the Sunrise Apartment
Complex # 1 in the 400 block of East Broadway along with Emergency Medical Services for an unknown
individual calling for help. Upon entry into the occupied apartment, a female victim was located
unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services pronounced the individual deceased at the residence.
Members of the Hopewell Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene and
initiated a death investigation. The decedent has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical
Examiner (OCME) for autopsy.
The identity of the decedent is not being released at this time pending notification of the next-of-kin. A
person of interest has been identified and there is no immediate threat to the rest of the community.

The Hopewell Police Department is requesting that any person(s) who may have witnessed any
suspicious activity at the Sunrise Apartment Complex # 1, been in the area at the time or have any
