[Hopewell, VA] – On Monday, January 25, 2021, at approximately 3:40 P.M., officers responded to the area of Weston Circle and West Cawson Street after reported shots fired in the area. As officers were canvassing the area, police telecommunications received a call of a juvenile male with a gunshot wound to their right arm at the emergency room of John Randolph Medical Center. Officers responded to John Randolph Medical Center to investigate the incident.
Members of the Hopewell Police Department Criminal Investigation (CIU) subsequently initiated an investigation. The 17-year-old male victim was in the area of Weston Circle and West Cawson Street when he encountered the offender. An altercation ensued at which time, offender described as a black male, light skin wearing a dark colored hooded shirt and caring a black backpack shot the victim. A friend transported the victim to John Randolph Medical Center. The victim was treated with a non-life threatening injury.
Further specifics regarding the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting, as well as, the identity of the victim are not being released at this time as detectives continue to actively investigate the incident. No other persons were injured because of the shooting.
