Shooting Investigation Underway in Hopewell
[Hopewell, VA] – On Thursday, December 24, 2020 at approximately 3:30 P.M., officers responded to the 200 block of South 7th Avenue in Thomas Rolfe Court for shots fired. As officers were canvassing the area, a call for service came in indicating a single juvenile male victim had walked into John Randolph Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest. Medical treatment was rendered at JRMC and the victim was subsequently transported to Chippenham Hospital for further treatment.
Members of the Hopewell Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit subsequently initiated an investigation. Preliminary investigation points to the victim and two other individuals meeting in Thomas Rolfe Court when a physical fight ensued. During the course of the altercation, one of the other individuals produced a firearm and shot multiple times. The juvenile victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and the offender fled the area on foot. A maroon Mitsubishi four-door sedan was seen leaving the area after the shooting.
The Hopewell Police Department is requesting that any person(s) who may have witnessed any activity in the 200 block of Thomas Rolfe Court or been in the area at the time or have any information to provide, to contact Lead Detective Edward Coglio of the Hopewell Street Crimes Unit at (804) 541-2284.
