The Hopewell Downtown Partnership Announces Monthly Indoor Farmer’s Market!
Hopewell, VA— The Hopewell Downtown Partnership (HDP) and Guncotton Coffee and Gallery are excited to host a monthly Indoor Farmers Market on the first Thursday of every month from 5-7pm! These events will take place at Guncotton Coffee, located at 238 East Broadway Avenue Hopewell, VA 23860. The dates for the 2018 season include: Thursday, September 6th; Thursday, October 4th; Thursday, November 1st; and Thursday, December 6th.
The Indoor Farmers Market will host local vendors, to include: Peterson Family Farm, Red Barn Berkshires, Verde, Breaking Bread, Poor Georgie’s Bake Shoppe, Haley’s Honey and Wayne’s Produce. This will give shoppers an opportunity to buy a variety of products including: pasture raised chicken products, free range Berkshire pork products, freshly baked goods, locally grown produce, local honey, and refreshing smoothies. More information about this event can be found on the HDP’s website: www.hopewelldowntown.com/indoor-farmers-market.
As demand for local food continues to grow, so have the opportunities for America’s farmers to market fresh food directly to the consumer. According to statistics recently released by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), farmers markets and farm stands account for roughly $2 billion of the $3 billion that Americans spend annually on farm-direct products. This revenue, in turn, supports the livelihoods of more than 165,000 mostly small and mid-sized farms and ranches.
The HDP is proud to give shoppers a chance to buy from local farmers every two weeks, at these farmer’s markets as well as at their Third Thursday Open Air Marketplace events. The Third Thursday events are a “farmer’s market festival” featuring local vendors, food trucks, live music, local craft beverages, art programming and children’s activities. The next Third Thursday will take place on Thursday, September 20th from 5:30-8:30 along East Broadway Avenue in Downtown Hopewell. South of James will be hitting the stage for the September event. More information about these events can be found on the HDP’s website, www.hopewelldowntown/marketplace.
