Citizen Police Academy
The Hopewell Police Department is now accepting applications for our first Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA). The CPA is a 10-week educational program created to strengthen understanding and communication between our agency and our community. Participants will be given the opportunity to increase their overall understanding of how officers are trained, as well as experience the actual working environment that our team serves in. This program will consist of several important topics to include: Traffic Stops, Forensics, Use of Force, and Community Policing. To receive a graduation certificate, participants must attend 8 out of 10 sessions.
This 10-week program begins in July 2021. Sessions will begin promptly at 6:30 pm, and last until 9:00 pm. The majority of all sessions will take place at the Hopewell Police Department; however, off-site training may occur. This information will be distributed on your first day and our academy coordinators will work with you to ensure proper travel arrangements are made.
We will limit this class capacity at 10. This will allow for social distancing and help us maintain compliance with all COVID-19 safety protocols. All attendees will be required to wear a face covering. Interested applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no felony convictions, and should live, work, attend school, or be otherwise be affiliated with a City of Hopewell community organization. Due to the nature of material covered in our Citizen Police Academy, a background check will be completed on each applicant.
Applications will be due by June 1, 2021 in order to be considered for this session. Please use the link below to a printable application form, or you can come to the Hopewell Police Department at 150 W. Randolph Rd., Hopewell, VA 23860 to pick an application up. These need to be completed and returned to the Hopewell Police Department front desk.
