Ruth Johnson, YSC Member
Ruth Johnson is a native of Hopewell, Virginia who has lived in Hopewell, all but 6 years of her life. She is the 5th of seven Henry siblings. Ruth has been married since age 23 , to her husband Ben and from that union, has 2 sons and six grandchildren.
Ruth obtained her High School Diploma from
Hopewell High School, and continued her B.S. Degree in Chemistry from Virginia State University, a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies from the
Revelation Bible College, a branch of Friends International University in Merced, California, in 1996 and numerous leadership and training certificates toward continuous education.
Ruth possesses over 25 years of managerial and leadership experience, currently serving in the capacity of Church Administrator, Trustee Board member, Director of the Fine Arts ministry, Youth Ministry and on and various business teams at the Fountain of Life Outreach Church.
Ruth is actively involved with a grass roots organization, OC3 Organization of Churches and Concerned Citizens, serving as secretary since its commencement in 2012. Accomplishments include City Wide Prayer, National Day of Prayer, Assistance with Nation Night Out, Boys Scouts and Scout Reach, Thanksgiving Community Service and Thanksgiving Community Feeding.
Ruth has served in numerous capacities in the church, the community and even in the workplace where she helped to organize and facilitate a Christian based organization called “Hands Up Ministry, helping to build a church in the Dominican Republic, as well as, serving over 100 families in Gilpin Court area of Richmond with the Christmas Mother program. God has opened doors of opportunities for Ruth in the area of Psalmist, Motivational Speaker, Workshop Facilitator and the sharing of the gospel. She has been privileged to speak, sing, and facilitate workshops at several churches in the Richmond, Petersburg
and the Tri-City area and has been utilized to facilitate youth, music and women ministry workshops. Ruth is a prolific song writer, as well as, a published author with Kingdom Publishing Company. She released the first of several books, entitled “Silence Speaks” and is currently working on several others to include her long awaited book “Ain’t Nothing Wrong with Children but Parents”.
Ruth’s heartbeat is to impact the people in the community with hope, healing and restoration and so lends a hand where and when the need arises. God has used her to minister to many spiritually,
sociably, financially and physically in her current position. She was instrumental in implementing a Summer Youth Impact program through her church which served 44 families free of charge. Ruth was intimately involved with feeding the Homeless on a weekly basis co-jointly with another leader. She has also been intimately involved with working with the “Healing the Hurt” initiative which addressed domestic and sexual assault for several years. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
